Reflexology

Fiona Kisten qualified as a Therapeutic Reflexologist in 2000. With 25 years of valuable experience, her input into the lives of her patients is priceless. Her very own experience with the effects of emotional trauma on health stems from taking care of her mum who had major side effects from the emotional trauma, and also having gone through those effects herself. Having had fibromyalgia, depression, an extremely bad gut health and rheumatoid arthritis and having healed from that, puts her in a very good position to not only understand your pains, but also to treat you.

What is Reflexology & How Does it Help?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that specific areas on the feet correspond to organs and systems in the body. It supports health and wellbeing in the following ways:
1. Neurological Modulation and Pain Perception: Reflexology stimulates sensory nerves, which activate descending pain-modulation pathways in the central nervous system and can inhibit pain signals from reaching the brain.
2. Autonomic Nervous System Balance: It promotes a parasympathetic response, reducing sympathetic overactivity linked to stress-related disorders and can thus help with stress reduction, improve sleep quality, and promote relaxation.
3. Circulatory and Lymphatic Support: Gentle pressure and massage-like techniques can transiently enhance local blood flow and lymphatic circulation, which will support tissue oxygenation, waste clearance, and immune function.
4. Hormonal and Neurochemical Effects: Reflexology sessions triggers the release of endorphins and serotonin, which contribute to improved mood and reduced perception of stress, benefiting those with anxiety or depression.
5. Psychological and Placebo Effects: The therapeutic setting, touch, and interaction with clients has significant psychosomatic benefits, leading to improved mental wellbeing through relaxation response, increased self-care awareness, and placebo mechanisms.

Reflexology is integrated into holistic, patient-centered care plans as a supportive therapy—especially for chronic stress, pain, anxiety, and quality-of-life enhancement in conditions like cancer, fibromyalgia, and digestive disorders.
